Sarah“Penguin” Rafferty

As a Sacramento-born Filipino American artist, and a mother of two, my journey into tattooing was preceded by a career in marketing and advertising as a graphic designer. Eventually, my passion for art led me back to the world of tattoo artistry.

With nearly a decade of experience, I specialize in creating custom, one-of-a-kind tattoos that are not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful to the wearer. My work is inspired by nature, animals, pop culture, and the whimsical elements of life. Whether it's a vibrant nature-inspired sleeve or a fantasy-themed back piece, I pour my creativity and expertise into every project.

I am a co-owner of The Mothership Tattoo Collective at 895 Lincoln Way in Auburn, CA. Our studio fosters a positive atmosphere where artists push each other to perfect their craft and welcome clients from all backgrounds. My friend, Ashely Foreman and I created this shop to have a place where we can foster creativity, showcase art and teach with an emphasis on self-expression and a respect for indigenous values and the environment.

My tattoo styles encompass color illustration, realism, and black and gray work. I have a particular affinity for projects that bring joy, such as nostalgic pieces, and I welcome realistic and ornamental designs as opportunities to grow as an artist. Some of the styles I offer include:

In 2026 I started my journey into Filipino cultural tattoos (Batok).
